Happy 106th Birthday Bill Shankly
Updated: Sep 8, 2019
Today marks the 106th birthday of a very special man. During his 15 years as manager, Shankly led #LiverpoolFC to win three First Division Championships, two FA Cups, four Charity Shields and one UEFA Cup before his surprise retirement announcement just weeks after winning the 1974 FA Cup Final. Though Shankly had ended his managerial career with the club, his legacy lives on.

In August 1982, in a low-key ceremony with Nessie Shankly in attendance, Liverpool unveiled the 15-foot high cast-iron Shankly Gates in front of the Anfield Road stand for all to see the inscribed word, "You'll Never Walk Alone". The gates have been relocated in recent years to the entrance of the players’ car park.
In 1997, a bronze statue of Shankly was unveiled outside the stadium that stands 7 feet tall with a plaque reading, "He made the people happy".
Today, in his home town of Glenbuck, another honour had been bestowed upon him and all of his brothers. A beautiful tribute to the legendary #Glenbuckcherrypickers with the memorial overlooking Burnside Park.
